Artem Sonitus sprung from a collaboration between CoFabrico ( a local Nottingham company) and myself as my final university project.
The idea was to create a pair of headphones that solved as many user complaints as possible. These complaints ranged from fit and comfort to sound quality and usability.
We addressed the issues of fit and comfort by choosing to 3D print each item for each consumer individually. This way we achieved the perfect fit each time and avoided unnecessary waste along the way.
The final design bypassed the ear canal, choosing instead to pass vibrations through the bone. This meant that the users didn’t completely shut out the outside world while using high quality headphones.
The combination of accessibility and usability with high quality sound technology expanded our audience. This was useful to everyone - from delivery bikers who need to focus on the road while blasting music, to any connoisseur calmly listening at home.
