5 things I Love about Procreate
The best things in life are free. Thats true! But in this case its £10
Let me introduce you to Procreate, my new best friend.
If you’ve ever seen my Instagram, you know it exists because of Procreate so listen up…
I’ve had plenty of time to go through procreate and explore every button, feature and mask in there and listed the 5 best things about procreate I could find. As of right now that is - there might be more things at a later date:
Grids - The grids and guides I absolutely love. I spent an entire weekend on the symmetry mode - making millennial mandalas. I can’t tell you how addicting it is. But in all seriousness, it helps make life easier; whether I’m lining up different aspects or duplicating flowers on a wreath. Just don’t get distracted and start doodling.
Colour Palettes - Believe it or not I didn’t find out about colour palettes until I started @everytuesday tutorials. They made life 1000x easier. I use them for everything now. Because nothing’s worse than losing the yellow hue you found after 500 scrolls around the colour wheel. And with colour palettes -this will never happen again.
Clipping Masks - What if I told you you can add texture to anything you draw or write after you draw it. You’d probably say “duh, of course you can. I just don’t know how to do it!”. Well, I’m here to tell you that you’re looking for Clip Masking. With it, your art can look exactly the way you wanted it - without being afraid of brushing over the lines or having to press ‘undo’ every time it doesn’t look right.
Amount of Brushes - I mean, I know you know there’s many brushes! If you’re reading this it means that you know what procreate is! But did you know - you can buy brushes. And if spending more money isn’t your thing, you can EDIT the brushes! And another thing that’ll blow your mind: artists on YouTube sometimes give away brushes they’ve edited themselves. Bardot brush has some amazing sets but my go to is @everytuesday ‘monoline brush’.
Play Back Video - It is, quite frankly, the Bomb. When I found the playback mode is when I fell in love with procreate. Not trying to be big headed here, but after I found it, I went back and watched all of my drawings come to life. Each image you create has a path and this is tracked back in a sped up version. Basically, all those videos we watch on Facebook and YouTube of artists making amazing art? Just a bonus feature on procreate!
Anyway, if you got here I hope you found this interesting or that I told you at least one thing you didn’t know. Now you’ll know what I’m talking about since all I talk about is procreate.
