Bordado (AKA Embroidery)

My great grandmother saw my first embroidery.

She said “It’s not perfect. But it’s good for a first try”

Anyway…

Thanks to Clube do Bordado, a Brazilian embroidery club (lead by badass feminists that teach empowerment through embroidery)- I think I got the hang of it now!

Never mind the fact that I have to learn Portuguese to fully understand what they teach -I think I’ve found my favourite pastime!

Turns out embroidery is something I had never tried - but have a knack for. I’m an old woman at heart! I thought cross stitch was all I could do but this has opened up a brand new road!

Embroidery is actually such an interesting aspect of fashion design no one ever talks about. Actually one of the founding members of the Clube do Bordado used to be a lingerie designer. I know - how ’saucy’.

But actually I never knew that embroidery played such part in the making of things we wear every day. From bags to underwear - literally.

So now I’m super interested in embroidery. And I think my quarantine is going to be a good time to fill our apartment walls with embroidery when we get back to England.

Whenever that is!

I don’t think Luiz is going to be very happy when I tell him about our new wall art arrangements.

But I guess he’ll have to deal with it!
